About the show
One of the best new narrative ballets I have ever seen — this is how Graham Watts, Chairman of the Critics' Circle UK and Spectator critic, described the production. Two Carpets was named among his top 12 dance productions of 2025.
The story is built around the legend of the Shirvan carpet, now held in the Louvre. By ancient tradition, a mother teaches her daughter to weave a carpet — and every pattern becomes a page of her life. The action unfolds across several historical eras — with Vienna holding a special place in the story. A production about a city that remembers everything.
The lead roles are danced by Tatiana Ten (Leyla) — formerly a soloist with Ballet du Capitole in Toulouse, who trained at La Scala in Milan; Sundet Sultanov (Samir) — laureate of the international Benois de la Danse award; and Natalia Fernandes Menes (Margot) — a prima ballerina with an international career, a graduate of the Joffrey Ballet School in New York. The opening dialogue is spoken in German by actresses on stage. Students from the Astana Choreographic Academy join the company on stage. More than 200 unique costumes were created specifically for this production.
Behind every performance stands the work of nearly a hundred people — dancers, production team, and technicians. The set was transported in two trucks that covered more than five thousand kilometers to reach the stage of the Wiener Stadthalle.
